STOP PRESS!!
Following the recent hacker attack on Hotmail, Microsoft have changed the login validation procedure which now causes additional problems for RISC OS users. At the present time I have not found a work around for this. When (or if...) I do, then I will update this page so that RISC OS users can access their Hotmail accounts again.

I recently sent an email to HotMail technical support complaining that a number of people can no longer access their HotMail accounts since they implemented SSL access. Here is their reply:-
Dear Member,
I [sic] this time there are no immediate plans to remove the ssl feature on Hotmail. Hotmail relies on this feature to make it easier to link Hotmail to other Microsoft sites. It is an essential part of our architecture. We do appreciate your feedback and will let our development and engineering teams know your request, for possible future upgrades to our site.

If you wish to have users go to msn they just need to direct their browsers to www.msn.com.

 Access your HotMail email without SSL (Thanks to Thomas Bee)

 Creating a new account using RISC OS (requires SSL)

This will probably not work, but I've included it here as a "work in progress". One problem I've found is that submissions are validated against a time coded cgi. This means that a form which works today might not work tomorrow.
If it works, this form will allow you to register a Hotmail account without having to actually visit the Hotmail web site. All you need is a username and password. Things like address, gender, age etc are anonymised for you.

First Name   Last Name
(Hotmail sends your full name on all mail messages.)

Login Name required:  @hotmail.com
Start with a letter and use only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and the underscore (_).

Password   and again;
Passwords must be at least eight (8) characters long and may have only numbers (0-9) and upper and lowercase letters (A-Z, a-z). Make sure your password is difficult for others to guess!

Secret Question
If at some future time you forget your password, you will be required to correctly answer your secret question in order to regain access to your account.
